SCARECROW

Built in Imperial, Saskatchewan

Bins, cattleand machines.One record book.

Scarecrow keeps the running record for a grain farm. What is in every bin, what the herd costs to keep, when the oil was last changed.

Keep scrolling and the bin fills. The bushels are the real conversion for a 14ft hopper.

10 farms get it free for life

Scarecrow is new and we are taking on ten farms to start. They pay nothing, ever, including after the price below takes effect. What we want back is honest word on what is missing and what is wrong.

Put your farm forward

Both halvesof the farm

Most farm programs are built for grain with cattle added on, or the other way round. Scarecrow asks which you are on the first screen and opens there from then on.

Fifty-two bins, by yard. The fill is the level, not a picture.

Grain

  • Every bin and how full it is, by ring, bushel or tonne
  • Scale tickets checked against the bin they came out of
  • Contracts, tonnes still to haul, and when the window shuts
  • Yield by field once the loads are in
  • Printable tags so a phone finds the right bin in the dark

Cattle

  • Groups and head counts, with tags only where you want them
  • Due dates off each breeding, so you know the weeks ahead
  • 205-day weaning weights, adjusted, by cow
  • Grazing days by paddock and what has rested longest
  • Withdrawal dates, so nothing ships that should not

Machines, fuel, chemical and fertilizer are in there too, on the same footing. Anything you have no use for can be switched off and stops appearing.

  5. Oct 28Correction scale ticket came back+60
  6. The correction is another entry, not a change to the load above it. That load still says what it said in September, which is why the bin can still tell you what was in it then.

Everything isa running record

Nothing on the screen is a figure somebody keeps up to date. A load in, a load out, a weighing, a vet bill: each one is an entry, and what you see is the sum of them.

A correction is another entry rather than a change to the old one. That is why a bin can still tell you what was in it last September, and why the reports need no separate bookkeeping.

Have a go

Drag the grain line. Then change the crop without moving it.

1,237bu · 33.7 t

3.0 of 5 rings · 13.9 ft deep

A bushel is a volume, so the same grain line reads the same bushels whatever is in the bin. The weight is what moves: spring wheat at 60lb comes to 33.7 t, where canola at the same line would be 28.0 t. That is the difference between loads, not a rounding error.

And on the hopper, half the grain sits at 2.2 rings of 5: the cone holds about 260 bushels before any of it reaches the first seam, which is why reading a bin by eye is a guess.

  • Works with no signalThe bin yard opens and reads fine out of range. A load you record waits on the phone and goes up when you are back.
  • Big buttons, gloves onBuilt to be used from the seat of a truck, not at a desk after dark.
  • More than one personThe hired man records what he hauled. You see it without asking him at supper.

Level is drawn, not typed. Every one of these is the sum of the loads that went in and came out, which is why the yard is never out of date.

Work it out

Put your own herd in. Nothing is sent anywhere.

$182a head

$11,284 across 62 head. On the real screen none of these are typed in: they are the feed you recorded hauling and the vet bills you entered, added up.

Labour, land, machinery and interest are not in it. You should know that before you quote the figure to anybody.

What the herdcosts you

Feed off the shelf, the vet bill, the heifers you bought, divided by head. It comes out of the records you already made feeding and treating them, so there is no second set of books.

The screen also says what the figure leaves out. Labour, land, machinery and interest are not in it. You should know that before you quote it to anyone.

Reports you didnot have to fill in

Which field paid, which cow pays, where the money went, what is left to haul. All of it off the loads and weighings already recorded.

Try it on a made-up farm

Fifty-two bins, a cow herd, a shop full of machines. No account, no card. Record a load, move the cattle, break whatever you like. It puts itself back every hour.

What it costs

One price for the whole farm, however many bins, head or people you have. Canadian dollars.

Tell your neighbour

Send another farm our way and you both get [REFERRAL OFFER] off your next year. There is no cap on it. Refer enough farms and you stop paying.

Coffee row counts.

Your records are yours

Every load, weighing, ticket and vet bill downloads as a spreadsheet, any day you like, whether you carry on with Scarecrow or not. There is a button for it in settings and it does not ask why.

Early access farms are not on this list. Ten of them pay nothing for as long as they use it.

Why webuilt it

Scarecrow was built for farmers who wanted a farm management application that grows with them (without breaking the bank). In the 21st century, farmers shouldn't have to rely on paper only because the software they use isn't reliable.

So that's why we built Scarecrow to be where everything lives and can be shared by everyone who is a part of your farm. Scarecrow was proudly built in Imperial, Saskatchewan, in the heart of the Canadian prairies.
